1st Web Discussion

Had a great web discussion with Dr. Benavides last night.  It was a new experience for me, but will be a very valuable tool once we all get together on it so we can share ideas and ask questions.  See you all on there next Tuesday at 8:00 p.m.

Reflection of Week 1

I must say this course is going pretty smooth so far.  There are just a few things that I am not sure of such as the internship plan and the TK20 thing we are supposed to do.  So, if anyone has any help on either of these two items, please reply and offer some assistance.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hmmmmmm.....How Can I Use This

As I go through and manipulate the many features of the blog, ideas just keep popping in my mind of the many things I can do with this.  One that I will begin using immediately is to allow my teachers to blog about the positive things that are ocurring in the classroom or on campus.  I also see them using this to share ideas with each other and our sister school that is across town.  The ideas are endless and I am excited to begin using it.

Action Research

Action research is a term that I was not very familiar with when I started this assignment, but it is one that I quickly learned.  Action research is a cyclical pattern of posing questions, gathering data, reflection, and deciding on a course of action.  In other words, it is what all of us as educators should be doing in order to enhance learning for all students.  It is not the research of old where you studied people or gathered in formation on a topic as you searched for correct answers.

Action research is a process we have used in my current position for a while.  As stated before, we have practiced this strategy but did not know it by name.  As one big learning community, we gather data not only about the students, but on the teachers as well.  We collaboratively reflect on our processes and procedures and decide what we need to do in order to make our teaching more effective.  It is a practice that I must continue to incorporate into any position I hold and ensure that everyone in the organization be familiar with if we are to meet the demands and goals that are placed upon us as educators.
