Equality, Equity, Adequacy

Equality, equity, adequacy from Jesus Uranga

1.Equality:The state of being equal.Every student has access to the same educational program.

a.Examples of Equality: Every child has access to reading, math, and other basic courses.The other example is that every district in the state must offer the same number of instructional days within a school year.

Equity: Being fair and impartial and being able to respond to the different needs of the different individuals.

a.Examples of Equity:Special allotments for different subgroups in order to meet the individual needs of the students.Bilingual education receives monies for students whose first language is not English.Compensatory funds are provided to in order to meet the needs of students that are in at-risk situations.

Adequacy: Sufficiency for a particular purpose.The purpose in school districts is to meet state accreditation standards.

a.Examples of Adequacy: Special allotments for the replacement of textbooks with either new textbooks or technology.The second example is providing for a minimum salary schedule for teachers.
